About Me

My name is Nathan Miller. I am a software and robotics enthusiast, and this is my personal portfolio website. I know that at the moment it is fairly bare, but that will be rectified over time as I add information about projects that I've worked on, as well as work experience that I've accrued.

Software Projects

OpenComic

OpenComic is a CMS designed for webcomic sites. It is my brainchild, and in a way my flagship software project. I am currently being assisted by my partner in crime development, Caleb Langeslag. Source code can be viewed via the public Subversion at https://opencomic.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/opencomic/trunk.

Crystal Engine

Crystal Engine is and always has been many things. At present it is planned to be a full featured game engine that is simply an amalgam of several pre-existing libraries, including rendering, phyisics, controls, AI, etc. I intend to, in the future, write my own physics engine for it, which will be the heart of the project. Really though, at this time the whole project is just a concept. More information about the new physics engine and Crystal Engine itself is forthcoming.

Mapping

Recently I've begun learning to create maps for games based on the Source video game engine(Created by the awesome people at Valve). I've been focusing my efforts on Team Fortress 2, though the skills basically applies to any game created using a recent version of the Source engine. It's fairly interesting hobby, and requires a fair amount of creativity and thought. I will post maps here, and on my blog, as I complete them.

Hardware Projects

Hacking an X-Box

My attempts to recover data from a derilect Xbox. They have been thus far unfortunately unsuccessful. The current process involves using a small custom built curcuit to read the harddrive key from an eeprom chip located on the X-Box's motherboard. Pictures will be posted when I finish the project.

Work/Volunteer Experience

Belmont Church, Nashville, TN

I served as a powerpoint/Mediashout operator for the youth group. This included using Microsoft Powerpoint and another presentation application known as Mediashout to project song lyrics and sermon notes on the wall during worship and teaching sessions.

Family Christian Academy, Nashville, TN

I served as the school’s student computer administrator. My duties included networking, OS installation (Windows), software installation, and hardware troubleshooting.

MMOSwap.com

I designed, architected, and wrote the software that powers MMOSwap.com. After several revisions I provided the website layout and design, and I have written the software that works behind the website. It is written in PHP, and the database is driven by MySQL. I am currently in the process of rewriting the entire site in ASP.NET MVC both as a a learning experience and to implement much needed changes to the existing code.
